Say Anything - I Don’t Think It Is Vinyl LP Hot Topic Exclusive is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Max Bemis hits again! With Say Anything records, no matter what strange and new path they may take, you can always count on two things: Great writing and Bemis' personality shining through the songs. Say Anything has been my favorite band for well over a decade, and as far as I'm concerned, they've never made a bad record. I have occasionally taken a few listens to warm up to the work, but it is always more than substantial. You have a much different sound than on previous records, where Bemis was primarily taking things into his own hands, and using some session musicians. On IDTII, he incorporates a new band, and one that is consistent throughout the album. Whether or not that will be the direction of his next work is up in the air, but it works for this. Songs like "17 Coked Up and Speeding" have a new sound but the old Bemis way of songwriting. It's autobiographical and self-abusing, like the Say Anything we have always known and love. Is it my favorite record of theirs? No. But that's ok. Max does something different every album, and it is never bad. I look forward to where it goes next.
